Do I really want this surgery??

My husband and I went to a lifestyle change class last night for the surgery, and I learned some pretty raw things about the surgery. Up until now I have only been looking at the surgery as 'next year I will be skinny!'......but I mean last night was an eye-opener for me. Its going to be soooo hard! At lease it seems like it! A couple of the things I heard that seems very hard is...

-Excercising for an hour EVERYDAY
-No sweets for the rest of my life
-Barely any starches
-No babies for 2 years (I have heard only 1 year several times)

And thats only a few! I just need some reassurance that I am making the right choice! I really want to be healthy, and I definitely want babies ASAP! Is this surgery really as hard as it seems?

HELP ME!!

Having the surgery changed my life for the better.   I have so many ailments before that are completely gone now.

I use to tak 154 pills a week for my diabetes, potassium deficiency, high blood pressure, high cholestrol, and heart disease, etc....

Today I have none of those problems and the only pills I take are my vitamins,  I woke up from surgery with normal blood sugar levels and it has been that way for almost 4 years now.

The surgery has it's bad points, but the good far out weigh any bad for me.

You have to make the best decision for you and your body, and family.   It's not just about getting skinny, it's about giving yourself a chance at living a healthy life.

I will tell you this – not everything you have listed is how it goes down for everybody.

BUT

I will tell you THIS – if you can’t exercise REGULARLY or if that seems like an unreasonable requirement – then this is NOT for you.

ANY healthy lifestyle plan includes regular exercise – I did ALL the way up until about 6 mos ago – and packed 15lbs right the hell back on – I am not hitting the gym at 5am five days a week – it’s what you GOTTA do.

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

I agree with Lee and MM.  Listen, surgery will change your life.  But changing your life and lifestyle is what you HAVE to do NO MATTER what road you choose and guess what boo, exercise is a part of ALL of it.  Making better food choices is a part of ALL of it.  Changing your mental state of mind is a part of ALL of it.  See, we want the benefits of things and we hate were we are, but we often aren't will do let go of the things we need to to get there.  God can't put anything new into your hands until you let go of what you are holding on to.  Yes, surgery is hard to some degree but it is far easier than staying obese!!!

I feel only you can answer that question but also ask youself where will you be if you do not lose the weight?  The surgery is hard for me mentally but physically I am just fine.  I have developed a habit of taking my vitamins, exercising , drinking water and working on eating healthy the majority of the time.  So it is part of my routine I would not look at it as hard or easy it just part of my life to get and stay healthy.

Honey,

You have to realize that you will be making a life change.  WLS is a tool to help you toward gaining a healthy lifestyle.  With all the bad that they informed you of there is so much more good that will come out of it.

Along with changing your eating habits you will need to ex cerise regularly especially when you hit that brick wall  and the weight stops coming off for a time period.  It is so easy to regain and fall back into old habits.

The final choice has to be up to you because if you do not go into it with a strong will you will FAIL.  Mind you there will be set back but a weak mind and the wrong ideas will cause you to FAIL PERIOD.

Its not easy.  You must have had a clue reading these boards.  Your body is permanantly altered.  Your eating habits must be permanantly altered.  You must change your inactive lifestyle to succeed.   You will have to place on hold family plans for the best possible out comes.

Of course there are those who eat what they want and sit on their asses and get pregnant right away and disregard any guidelines they do not like.  That's up to each of us.  You can choose to succeed or to fail as well as to do nothing about your obesity.

But ask yourself this: What do you want in the long term?  Which decision will lead you where you want to be in five or ten years down the road?   Know what you want and what you are willing to sacrafice to make it happen.  Then answer your own question.
